Have you ever wondered why gas prices jump so violently around here? It's called "The Speedway Effect". It's in direct relation to the number of Speedway gas stations you have in your town or state.... Read this little article and observe the charts, then we might be able to figure out a way to beat these guys at their own game...

I live out towards Speedway on 47 and I have noticed this for a number of years. Sometimes Speedway changes their prices a couple of times a day. There have been times when the hike is been over 40 cents a gallon.

Usually when this happens within an hour there are many other stations following suit.

I have learned there a few stations not so quick on the draw (Walmart) for one and the increase will show up for them the next day. So when you see a 40 cent increase in gas at Speedway you will usually see a long line at Walmart...that is until the next day.

Can somebody say COLLUSION in all this??

I often wondered why our gas prices went down so slowly and up so drastically. The article on "The Speedway Effect", explained it perfectly..  My thought on this is... No one buy gas from Speedway. Tell everyone you know, not to buy gas from Speedway. If we get enough people to do this, Speedway will have to quit playing the game. Sread "The Speedway Effect" link to everyone you know, if we can hurt their business enough, they'll have to straighten up and fly right.. To make this work, you'll have to get as many people as possible to go along. Fire up your E-mail folks.

I think to be fair, there should be other gas stations for comparison on those charts.

Did anyone else read the article that said Speedway is buying up the Gas America's?  Talk about getting rid of the competition!

I still like the idea put forth some years back. Everyone fill up on Sunday, then no one buy gas until they have to. Remember after 9/11 and no planes flew for 3 days. Gas prices dropped drastically because of the surplus. I still find it ironic how people cry about gas prices as they fly down the highway at 80 mph. So if we want to lower gas prices do this. Ride a bike or walk if going short distances. Do the speed limit and keep up car maintenance. We the public could do quite a bit to lower prices, but that would require some sacrifice from us. God forbid we give up our god given right to consume recklessly and be lazy.

The point of "The Speedway Effect" article, was to show how they are gouging us on the fluctuation of the price of gasoline.. Speedway isn't flowing with The natural ebb and flow of fuel prices, they are artificially spikeing the price to fleece us... Boycotting them will hopefully get them to treat us more fairly. Buy all the coffee and pizza you want from them, just buy your gas elsewhere...

Mike, that's a great idea.. in the mean time, why don't we rally together to cut the knees out from underneath a company who is gouging us mercilessly..

Lepew makes great points, and I agree. We can all do a lot to help conserve, no one wants to be that guy.

Gas prices on a national level are a reflection of this administration trying to control our behavior, and appeasement to environmental whackos.  Steven Chu the energy Secretary wants to have gas at $7 to $9 a gallon, (Like Europe today) in an article quickly buried by main stream media, in an attempt to change our behavior on consumption of oil, and force us within 5 years to alternative energy.

Shameful

Where are all the liberals and far left idiots that were screaming at Bush for high gas prices.  Apparently, high gas prices under a democrat is OK. Gas is up 91% since Obama took over, i guess that is acceptable because he gives us free @#$!.

In the mean time, lets put a little effort into stopping the predatory price gouging innitated by these speedway gas stations... Buy gas anywhere but speedway. They'll get the message pretty quickly.

If you look at the link I posted to begin this thread, it shows that towns without speedway gas stations don't have the huge price spikes that we have, because of Speedway price gouging. We need to get the message out that speedway is ripping the whole community off. If people quit buying gas there, speedway will have to cut out the shenanigans.
